4 Stages of Injection Molding
Injection molding creates components using a pressurized plastic injected into a clamped mold. It is a fast and efficient way to make industrial-strength parts for many applications.

1. Clamping the Mold
A mold comes in two parts, allowing the cooled injection to be removed at the end of the process. Before the injection can happen, the two halves are clamped together to form an air-tight seal. 2. Injecting the Plastic
The polymer is then introduced into the hallow section using pressurized injection. Plastic pellets are melted to create the injection material. The injected material is called the shot, and it is subjected to pressures ranging from 35 to 140 MPa. Once 95 to 99 percent of the mold is full of the substrate, the injection finishes.
3. Cooling the New Part
Next, the plastic must cool. The molding machine sometimes uses water pumped through the mold to expedite the cooling process. Otherwise, the plastic must come to an acceptable temperature through time alone. The cooling process begins when plastic touches the mold, as the metal serves as a heat sink for the ultra-hot material.
4. Detaching the Cooled Part
Ejection occurs when the part is adequately cooled. Usually, the part has experienced some shrinking and is stuck to the mold, so some force must be used to detach the plastic part. The mold can then be reused to create a new piece.
